Internships
From CommerceNet Wiki
CommerceNet is seeking several motivated students to explore the frontiers of online interactivity (particularly in the areas of health/medical information and collaboration) this summer (2008) in Palo Alto.
Who Are We? For thirteen years we've combined research and entrepreneurship as an accelerator of Internet innovation in Silicon Valley. Among our pioneering accomplishments are: the first secured Web credit-card transaction; the first consumer Internet adoption survey; and the first XML business vocabularies.
Who Should Apply? Graduate students (or undergraduates with unusual experience) in computer science, economics, and business are eligible to apply for three or four-month research internships to collaborate with CommerceNet, extend their own current work, and explore how startups apply innovations in practice. Demonstrated entrepreneurship is a plus.
What Do We Do? Our research interests include usable security, online communities, and patient empowerment through online health information access and sharing. We are studying authentication mechanisms bound to HTTP, Internet-scale notifications and standardization thereof; usability and availability of health-related statistics; patient-generated health information and patients sharing experience and information with each other; virtualizing the creation of collaborative teams to work on drug research.
Why Intern Here? We focus on transforming innovations into companies and helping engineers become entrepreneurs. In addition to our research work, we sponsor a range of Open Source initiatives and seed startup companies. Interns will have the opportunity to network with entrepreneurs and be mentored by senior management and fellows.
How to Apply: Please email a statement of interest, resume or CV, and references (your advisor and one other mentor) to [Lisa Dusseault]. Qualified applicants will be notified to set up a phone interview soon afterwards. Interns should expect compensation, relocation, and travel benefits competitive with other corporate research lab internships. Women and minorities are particularly encouraged to apply.
