[edit] Software Prototype Engineer
CommerceNet is an entrepreneurial research institute, dedicated to fulfill the promise of the Internet. We are currently seeking Software Engineers capable of doing rapid prototyping of Web Applications, browser plugins or standalone applications. These applications are likely to be in the realm of Web security or Web 2.0 health information access, but could be in other areas as well depending on the interests of CommerceNet board, fellows and staff. What you'll do at first:
- Spend just enough time with other CommerceNet innovators to understand a general user interaction goal.
- Design and mock up or prototype user interfaces with minimal guidance, using rapid iteration and feedback loop.

- Stay abreast of tool/library availability whenever that could aid rapid prototyping, particularly concerning tools offering a higher level of Web application interactivity.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in programming-related field, or equivalent
- At least three years GUI application development experience, most likely in Web Applications
- Demonstrable strong programming skill, including experience with more than one programming language and the ability to compare.

- Great ability to extrapolate from raw ideas to realistic implementations.
- Excellent communication skills: able to facilitate your own meetings as necessary, comfortable working with all levels of the organization
- Demonstrated entrepreneurial leanings.
- Good ability to pick up new languages, tools, or even enter new domains of expertise.
Interest, skills, education and experience in the following a plus:
- Building browser plugins (particularly FireFox plugins)
- User interface/interaction design or usability testing
